My 5 week temp job

As listed in my goals below, I wanted to find a 5 week temp job before I go travelling. I was mainly looking at PA or promotional jobs as I thought those would be the only jobs available for 5 weeks.

I was lucky to get a job at a company that does banner advertising on lampposts and media for exactly 5 weeks! It is a small team of 15 but they are growing rapidly with clients such as Marks & Spencer, the London Olympics and others. I’m working on 3 events- Tour de France, Notting Hill Festival and London Gay Pride Festival (free tickets hopefully! Um I mean to Notting Hill, not Gay Pride). I get to start at 10am and it’s quite flexible when I come and go. I find it interesting working in a small company and seeing how it operates.

I have been really lucky to get this job as part of my job is to go to different locations and choose which lampposts should have banners for the Tour de France. It is like sightseeing for me- imagine wandering around different areas of London that you’ve never been before in summer! I go to places like Trafalgar Square to quaint places in the outskirts of London to posh places like Mayfair so it is great walking around in the sun working plus sightseeing and getting paid for it! My boss drives a Porsche so he once drove us around checking lampposts around central London with the roof down when it was sunny so I got a free tour of London in a Porsche rather than a bus! Now I am quite familiar with London streets.

I do other things as well but they are a bit random such as finding funky interior designers to renovate the office and trying to get rubber mouldings produced to hang up banners up in Hyde Park (thank you to my engineering student friends in Sydney who helped me out when I had no idea how to go about it!).

I work with one of the Directors and we get along very well. He is very British and says things like “Melissa! You are outlandishly efficient!”. Now quite a few Aussies use the term ‘outlandishly’!

When I come back from travelling, I might work there now and then so I have a bit of cash whilst I look for a proper job.
